Abstract
One of the complications and main symptoms most frequently complained of by osteosarcoma patients is chronic pain. This severe pain occurs due to pressure from the tumor mass infiltrating bone tissue and following radical surgical procedures such as amputation. In addition to pharmacological management, pain management requires complementary non-pharmacological therapies such as distraction techniques and five-finger relaxation therapy, which combine finger touch with positive visualization to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and reduce physical tension and anxiety. Objective to determine the description of the nursing care process and the effectiveness of the application of five finger relaxation therapy in overcoming chronic pain problems in children with osteosarcoma at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Method this case study uses a descriptive experimental design to describe nursing care that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the case study was a 14- year-old male adolescent patient (An. B) with a medical diagnosis of osteosarcoma who experienced chronic pain problems. Data collection was carried out through interviews, direct observation, and physical examination. The five finger relaxation therapy intervention was applied for 3 consecutive days Results after being given nursing care and the application of five finger relaxation therapy routinely for 3 days, a significant decrease in pain intensity was obtained in the patient. The patient's pain scale decreased significantly from a scale of 7 (severe pain) to a scale of 3 (mild pain), accompanied by a relaxed facial expression and the disappearance of pain anxiety. Conclusion: The application of five-finger relaxation therapy has been proven effective, safe, and simple in reducing the intensity of chronic pain and improving psychophysical comfort in children with osteosarcoma. This intervention is recommended as a complementary therapy for nurses and families in managing pain in cancer patients.
