Abstract
Purpose: This case study aims to describe the application of innovative storytelling therapy to changes in signs and symptoms of hallucinations in Mrs. D in the Amino Ward of Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. Methodology: The method used is a descriptive case study with a psychiatric nursing care approach during a three-day hospitalization, using behavioral observation and clinical interviews as instruments. The intervention focused on providing Implementation Strategies (SP) 1-4 modified with storytelling therapy as a structured cognitive distraction medium. Results: The care outcomes showed significant improvement, with the patient's automatic face-slapping behavior decreasing drastically from six times on the first day to once on the third day. The patient's objective condition also showed an increase in eye contact duration to more than 10 seconds and the ability to perform reprimand techniques independently. This aligns with the theory that narrative provides a positive cognitive load that can inhibit the activation of hallucinatory areas in the brain (Hikmawati et al., 2025) and supports the process of normalizing thought through self-disclosure (Nurjannah et al., 2024). Conclusion: The application of innovative storytelling therapy is effective in reducing the frequency of hallucinatory symptoms and eliminating self-injurious behaviors, making it worthy of recommendation as a companion intervention in psychiatric nursing care to accelerate patient coping independence.
