Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Wasting in toddlers causes problems that need to be addressed. SSGI data shows that the prevalence of wasting in Indonesia has increased by 0.6% with a total of 7.7% in 2022. Research Objective: To determine the factors that cause wasting in toddlers aged 6-59 months at the Makasar District Health Center, East Jakarta City. Method: Cross sectional research design with total sampling technique. The research subjects were 40 toddlers. Data collection used questionnaires and data from the Maksar District Health Center. Data analysis used the Spearman test. Results: The proportion of toddlers frequently experiencing diarrhea was 5 (12.5%), frequently experiencing fever 11 (27.5%), currently suffering from acute respiratory infection 11 (27.5%), history of non-exclusive breastfeeding 6 (15.0%), incomplete immunization status 8 (20.0%), number of family members > 4 people 28 (70.0%), mother's latest education completed elementary/middle school or equivalent 12 (30.0%), mother's working status 8 (20.0%), family income <Rp. 4,901,798 28 (70.0%). The results of the analysis show that there is no relationship between the variables on the incidence of wasting and the outcomes of diarrhea (p-value=0.516), fever (p-value=0.452), ISPA (p-value=0.429), history of exclusive breastfeeding (p-value=0.190 ), immunization status (p-value=0.401), number of family members (p-value=0.600), mother's highest education (p-value=0.079), mother's working status (p-value=0.864), family income (p- value=0.822). Conclusion: There is no relationship between infectious diseases (diarrhea, fever and ISPA), history of exclusive breastfeeding, immunization status and family characteristics (number of family members, mother's highest level of education, mother's working status and family income) on the incidence of wasting. Keywords: toddlers aged 6-59 months, nutritional status, wasting.
